You may have noticed that in the summer your city seems hotter than the suburbs and that the temperature doesn't exactly go down at night.This phenomenon is known as the Heat Island Effect, where urban areas become and remain warmer than suburban areas due to the prevalence of heat retaining materials such as concrete.

Not to mention the increasing # of A/C units spewing out heated air to the exterior that gets trapped between city buildings.
