I've read about 5 Daniel Dennett books and they are all excellent. (besides being a great popular science/philosophy writer, he is also one of the most respected philosophers alive).

Daniel Dennett is the most lucid, well-reasoned contemporary philosopher on the planet. This book is an insightful look at the origins, practices, and justifications given for religion. It makes a convincing case as to why there is religion and why it persists. Although presented from a scientific view, it shows compassion for the anthropological aspects that religion serves.
