Funny. Pratchett's later stuff is much more tightly constructed than some of his earlier work.

Terry Pratchett writes some seriously funny, intelligent satire.  If you've never read him you're missing out.  This customarily sharp pasquinade of bureaucracy and human nature is a good introduction to Pratchett and stands alone well.  If you're put off by the fantasy label, don't be; think Monty Python, Vonnegut and Douglas Adams.

This was the first Discworld novel I read, and the first one is always special. See the world through Pratchett's fun house mirror. It's like a modern Gulliver's Travels - so you get the jokes.
