Extremely touching animation film, couldn't help shedding a couple tears while watching this. A symbolic incarnation of Japan from the wars as depicted through the eyes of children and teenagers. There is always beauty and hope, although you can see nothing but sorrow and death around you.

Beautiful movie. Animation isn't as good but still stands up to today's standards. Pace is a little bit slow, but it's so we can capture every ounce of the harrowing situation. Characters are so... real... And they are all flawed, so much so that the "what if"s are hard to face. Truly a beautiful tragedy... this is the best movie you will never want to see again.

The beautiful relationship between brother and sister, the living historical context, the lifelike characters.
This is tragedy at its best.
Cons: This is the saddest movie I have ever seen. Difficult to watch.

This movie is masterfully executed.
Cons: This movie will tear at your heartstrings, your tearducts, your emotions...you'll feel so deflated afterwards. It is REALLY good, but REALLY sad.
