This is the coolest app for Android. It allows you to automate everything from turning on wifi when you get home to over/under clocking your phone, to changing the volume depending on the time of day. It can runs all of the Locale plugins and many apps have native tasker hooks. If you are a techie and like to tweak your phone, get this.

Popular, lots of apps.
Cons: Clunky UI. Initally it looks cool, but for day to day use it really becomes painful (i.e. deleting 100 SMS is hell). No real customization w/out jail breaking it.

Android is by far the slickest OS if you are looking for a powerful phone that can be highly customized. I love it so much better than my iphone.
Cons: Not as many Fart apps as the iPhone, but it is catching up...

Very stable and runs on multiple platforms. Lots of great tools to debug and monitor applications. Simple to write multi-threaded apps that can use all cores on a server. Easy to add 3rd party tools.
Cons: Really easy to write slow and/or bloated code if you don't understand what you are doing (e.g. poor use of Strings).

Nothing is better than Old Man Perl for writing quick throw away scripts. In a knife fight, perl would beat the other interpreted languages.
Cons: Being so easy and forgiving, it is really easy to write garbage code that is unreadable by evening time.

This is a really good tower defence game. Even after a couple months, I still go back an play this for long stretches.
Cons: the early versions crashed a lot (though that may have been an apple OS issue). The recent versions seem stable though.

Cons: your site hangs and/or really slow page rendering when google stats has issues (once every month or 2)

Probably be best known open source stats program. Simple command line. It has plugins to things like MaxMind (free and paid) so you can break requests down to country/region/city
Cons: When running multiple webservers, you have to cobble something together to merge the logs into a single file. (google: mergelog for help)

Redhat is what all the big name companies certify their products against - Oracle, Veritas, EMC, etc. If you are planning to purchase big name 3rd party applications, this is the distribution for you.
Cons: Cost money. Not a great distribution for desktop machines. It is always far behind Ubuntu, Fedora Core, etc with regards to the newest applications.

100% Redhat compatible. Since Redhat is the distro that most companies certify on (Oracle, Veritas, EMC, etc) CentOS is the best free production alternative to Redhat.
Cons: Great for a server but not so good for a desktop distro. CentOS is always WAY behind Fedora, Ubuntu, etc for all the cool new bells and whistles.

This is the best MTA around. Extremely fast and secure.
Cons: High learning curve and not really modular (source patches required.) A pain to setup from source. Does not have a lot of fancy bells and whistles - but used with qpsmtpd it is awesome.

Simple command line only config. Generic so can be used in front of most applications.
Cons: Does not cache. Too simple for some applications. Only supports round-robin (but does support failover to lower weighted groups)

been around for a while, rock solid, and easy to setup
Cons: (as with all caching reverse proxies) you need to remember clear the cache when doing upgrades to your backend apps - or you still get stale content for a while.

This is a great little camera to be able to capture videos at a moments notice. Low cost and has pretty good sound and picture
Cons: It is hard to good videos of someone standing really close. You can pretty much only get about a head shot unless the person is like 10 feet away.
