I am literally working my way through this book. I am amazed at the amount of work Schiff had to do to put this book together...who knew one of the most famous women EVER had nearly no documented historical record to piece together? It is a challenging read, more textbook than narrative. Interesting insights into her family and the times.

It's so strange to think people are not used to eat brigadeiros in other countries. Here in Brazil a birthday is not a real birthday without a platter of brigadeiros, :-).

He's been called one of the greatest "psychological" novelists, and there's a lot of truth to that. While the setting of many of his scenes (so called "scandals" in 19th century upper-middle class Russian sitting rooms, but even that's a bit unfair I'll admit) might seem a bit anachronistic, the motivations and emotions behind them are timeless.

Amazingly written, connects all the stories wonderfully. Great stories of great caracters, shows different kinds os human behavior in all our colors. It's a rather large nover, but it's a impressive thriller. COmpletelly worth the reading
