The series is based on these novels by George R.R. Martin, a great read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire
A visually stunning beauty about losing oneself in a place called 2046 in order to recapture forgotten memories, and hence, finding oneself again.
Quoting IMDB: "Nobody knew for sure if it was true, because nobody who went there had ever come back except for one. He was there. He chose to leave. He wanted to change." & "Like Hitchcock, Mr. Wong is at once a voyeur and fetishist par excellence."
Very intense and original b-boy hiphop track from an artist who after college decided to change hip hop forever. Quoting last.fm biography: "Drawing from his diverse musical background, he dove into the project with explicit intent of changing Hip Hop forever." Very recommendable to dig deeper into this one, far away from regular main stream hip hop.
"I feel so close to you right now!" Immensely cool dubstep song that appeared in America's Got Talent 2011 finals in the performance by Team iLuminate. Their actual dance moves you can check out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u280HBGMSQU&feature=related
Slightly psychedelic electro-indie with an extremely catchy base rhythm, nearly futuristic sounds and good energy. Reminds me of the Sonic Youth. I think I've heard several remixes of this one at different clubs, no big wonder that DJs adore this joint.
Feeling down? This bands picks me up even from my worst rock bottoms with the cheery, nearly spiritual touch to their performance. Yes, this song appeared also in Scrubs and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Labels "psychedelic pop" and "symphonic rock" describe their music at best.
This series caught me completely under its spell: I watched all of the first season within a day and had to go and buy the books immediately thereafter. The notion of heroism & battle of good vs. evil is swiped off quickly - it's much more about single characters, their choices as individual actors, weak becoming strong through unconventional means & middle-age-themes with only a pinch of fantasy.
A classic Japanese plot-driven animation series with a great storyline, characters that you genuinely like, light humour and several mini-plots make watching the two seasons an easy and entertaining task. I also liked the fact that the themes and the happenings of the series don't feel too farfetched nor otherwordly i.e. this series is easily approachable, if you're unfamiliar with the genre.
Aside from my normal line of music recommendations.. Progressive black metal that blows your mind, titled by many sources as the metal album of the year 2012. The album gets better every time you listen to it: "Ne Obliviscaris have made their case for replacing Opeth atop the prog-metal pantheon in one strike; their next effort has a lot to live up to.// Sputnikmusic.com
