The new 3GS has video recording an other useful features not available in the iPhone 3G.
Some, but not all of the features can be used in the free iPhone OS 3.0 software.

The 3GS has many features that software developers can take advantage of, like the inbuilt voice control, compass and faster processor.
If you are already on an iPhone contract most carriers are charging excessive fees for an early upgrade.

Resale prices for iPhone 3G are as high as they'll ever be, and the eBay market is strong.
I will have to get the early upgrade price from AT&T which, while a discount from full price, is not as cheap as if I wait another year.

I've learned that most of the time "always there" trumps advanced, dedicated sophistication.

if you have a 2G phone, do it. I am an early adopter, and skipped the 3G phone.
I had 3.0 on my 1st Gen for a day or so. I was really happy with the OS! But the edge network was slow.

As an early adopter I feel like I am being rewarded with a discount and expect the 3Gs to be viable for another 2 years easy.
I've lived without a Video camera, GPS, and a Compass in my pocket for over 30 years. Do I really NEED to spend the money? AT&T sucks, will we get more choices while I am stuck in suck?
