The jug band of the damned has two basic tricks: the first, its most profound, is in brandishing old-timey instruments and then using them to reproduce modern, popular music. The second is a trifling matter of emotional inversion, making sad songs happy and happy songs sad. A reformed pirate band, they scour all sources, the unlikelier the better, for cover material, penning a few of their own.
Using an unfairly-maligned family of instruments (in anglo North America) to reveal a globe full of exciting new currents in world music, across all genres and styles and on every continent. Not just an hour of weekly music, but outreach events like their annual festival and monthly squeezebox circle. Building a real community where formerly there was only a punchline.
