Many New Yorkers don't know about Keens, yet it beats Luger's and other NYC steakhouses on every count: the food, the service, the history and the best single malt scotch selection in America. When you step into Keens you step back in time, from the antique pipe collection to the Lincoln Room, complete with a copy of the Gettysburg Address and the playbill Abe was holding when he was assassinated.

Who would you liken them to? My top dance album of the year is Tiesto's Club Life: Vegas... hunch.com/item/hn_3673564/

Possibly the best modern house DJ working today, Prosumer of Berlin's Panorama Bar recently released his first DJ mix album and it's excellent.

On this fine spring day, I recommend listening to this mix of disco, dancefloor R&B, and Italo-disco gems from the '70s and '80s. Enjoy.

20 years into his career, Terre Thaemlitz (aka DJ Sprinkles) remains one of the more interesting and talented electronic music producers around. His gender/sexuality politics, cynicism about the music industry, and strong sense of humor enhance already strong and diverse musical styles. His DJ Sprinkles album "Midtown 120 Blues" was one of the best electronic music albums of the last 5 years.

If you're in NYC and in the mood for some deep deep house, an essential show: www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?227592
also featuring Tim Sweeney (!) who killed it at the Marcy Hotel

thomasryan

thomasryan commented 2 years ago

Yeah - gutted that I can't make it to that show as I can't get to NYC that weekend. Ugh.

Since you can't make it here's something to hold you over:
Robag Wruhme's live set from Nuooh in Osaka

That album is in heavy rotation on my headphones (along with Ramadanman's Fabriclive set).
Gabor's playing tomorrow at a furniture warehouse in Brooklyn. Probably one of the better places to be during the rapture.

Benjamin: That Robag set is magnificent. Thanks! How was Sprinkle's set in NYC? Did you go?

gleitz

gleitz commented 1 year, 10 months ago

Glad you liked it! I ended up being out of town but Terre gave a lecture later in the week that was awesome.
I'm now splitting my time between SF and NYC so let me know the next time you are on a coast – would be great to catch a show.

One of the freshest electronic producers to come along in years. His music is diverse & experimental yet highly approachable. His new album "Space is Only Noise" is great, but the earlier releases like "Time for Us EP" and "Marks /Angles" are equally masterful. Check his SoundCloud page: soundcloud.com/nicolas-jaar

Nico Jaar at the Rivington Hotel was a religious experience. Have you heard the podcasts off his Clown and Sunset label? C'est magnifique!
