Interpol never again captured the post-millenial tension of urban life quite like they did on their debut. Overcoming some superficially weak lyrics and derivative sounds, the sum is undoubtedly greater than the parts, and it comes together to form a cohesive and unique mix.

If this isn't the essence of Nicholas Cage's oeuvre distilled into 45-second bites, I don't know what is.

Sixties-tinged bubblegum punk from Brooklyn, with an ever-evolving cast of drummers. Unlike some similar bands, this is the real thing.

The enigma behind Neutral Milk Hotel has recently re-emerged for some solo acoustic shows. He may not have any new songs, but check out his back catalogue and see him live while you can.

Awesome prog/math rock from Spain. Playing live in tinfoil helmets takes some beating, but if they're not playing near you, check out their two albums, Hare Krishna and Dalle!

Second album of metronomic, Krautrock-infused goodness from this Baltimore band. Full of moody guitar sounds and electronic squelches with enigmatic vocals buried in the murk.

A live-action French Tintin movie from 1961, which captures the characters, spirit and charm of the books brilliantly. Not based on an Herge book, but he contributed drawings to the end credits.

Mmm, vanilla latte - my drink of choice. It's like hot, melted ice cream, or coffee for children. Mmm - any time of the day or night.

An excellent casual Tex-Mex place in Edinburgh. Good quality food (and a strong social media presence, too).

One of the latest Tintin adventures see him in a pair of flares in Central America. As with all Tintin books this sees him in a range of adventures, with a growing social activist message, which was always there but especially in the last few books.

This is awesome - creative and clever (and sadly almost certainly better than the official movie will be). Tintin forever!

Superb - cleverly re-engineering the premise to allow more characters and to emphasise the relationships between the main characters. More great work from Chuck Lorre!
