I was born in Pittsburgh, at the confluence of three rivers. Even though I don't quite know the rules of football, and have no interest in team sports, I still get a subtle frisson of satisfaction when the Steelers win yet another Superbowl. I don't say "youse" for "you all" but do say "dror" for "drawer" and "saow" for "saw".

I was once driven out to the middle of the desert in Syria where a driver I'd hired to take me back to Beirut casually threatened to leave me and my friend out in the dunes unless we gave him another hundred dollars.

I co-founded Flickr, and have worked most of my career in social software and social media.

My hobbies include ferrofluid, uni, Enron and reading everything.

We eat our own dog food around here. On Hunch's recommendation I've bought a laptop bag, several presents, a digital camera, started reading Thomas Kuhn as well as various blogs, and started tying my scarves differently. And have made a bunch of contributions which I hope will influence people to start listening to Kyuss, reading Cabinet magazine, and eating Lesley Stowe's Raincoast Crisps.
