One of the world's great bookstores. They have a decent coffee shop; they sell new and used books; they fill several stories of a full city block (and still need *several* annexes); AND they shelve new and used books together!
Special note: If you're visiting from out of town, and go overboard (easy to do), they will even ship the books you buy there!

I try to make it in here every time I visit Portland. The food is generally local and interesting. The bar is fantastic, and keeps a top-notch array of whiskeys on hand, as well as offering a really solid cocktail list.
Also, it's just a few blocks from Powell's City of Books, always a plus.

A cool, funky, awesome and modern Italian restaurant at the top of Queen Anne. Quite small, so usually full up during prime dining hours. Open late, though. Singles will be very comfortable and well taken care of sitting at the bar.

Sometimes you want a nice, simple, greasy spoon kind of place for breakfast or lunch. This is that place.
I'm not crazy about the pancakes, but everything else is very good. If there's hash (corned beef or roast beef) on the specials menu, get it.

Fantastic for dinner, completely brilliant for breakfast/brunch. Happy hours offer insanely good deals, and nearly everything on the menus is delicious.
The only downside is there is frequently a wait if you want a table. Make reservations if you can.

This is the finest cocktail bar in the US, and one of the best in the world. Even with Murray gone, the drinks, the atmosphere, and the people remain top notch.
