They are my favorite metal band. The time signatures are complicated and the music is intense.

And, well... I'm a sucker for complexity.

One of my favorite live shows too.

I've been a Linode customer for four years now and still think they're great. I host all my stuff unless asked to use a different service.

Erlang is great, but somewhat mind bending. It's probably best to think of it as an operating system.

One that runs applications and comes with daemontools built in.

By the way, it's distributed. Your applications send messages to each other, across networks or not, to get work done. Your apps literally have mailboxes for messages.

And, all of that is inside a functional programming language.

Excellent movie. Came across it when I was first getting into sci-fi.

Excellent dissection of the education system.

Fans of this would probably enjoy the writings of John Taylor Gatto too. Most notably, the 7 lesson school teacher.

I've been using Python for just about two years now and find it useful for just about anything. Easy web serving, natural language processing, sophisticated math libraries and drivers for all the databases (even recent exotic ones).

Some of my favorite libraries: eventlet, boto, ujson, nltk

Some web frameworks: django, flask, tornado

Pandora's great. I tend to prefer listening to full albums, but when I'm in the mood for a mix I usually go to Pandora.

NYC Meetups are an excellent way to get to know the different programming communities in NYC. I cohost two and attend a few others and learn things - in addition to usually getting fed - at each one.

Amazing sounding guitar. Light, easy to play and sounds great for most styles. Rock, blues, punk... This guitar shows up all over the place.

I love this guitar! I always liked its look, but when I first picked one up to play it felt amazing.

Jazzmasters are my favorite guitar. The neck is huge and the sound is fat and warm.

Look at my avatar... That's my Jazzmaster.

Friends and I would stay up all night playing all four of these games. This one started my love for RPG's. I completed it entirely about 4 years ago and loved it then too.

I still love this console. If you own one, it's worthwhile to investigate replacing the 15 pin connector. Games work first try every time since I've done that.
