Seasoning your first caste iron skillet in bacon grease or lard is a rite of passage for American men. Lodge Logic is a good place to start if you didn't inherit one from an ancestor that died in the Civil War.

Cook at any heat and on any heat source. Great heat retention and can be seasoned to be pretty non-stick.
Cons: short handle and heft may make it difficult to maneuver. Some models have a helper loop handle opposite the stubby handle

Agreed! I swear by my old Griswold and recently aquired a brand new Lodge dutch oven. Love it.
