Great writing primarily on culture and foreign affairs. I live on the Pacific, but Atlantic Monthly is one of my favorite thought provoking magazines. It has survived for over 150 years and the future looks bright.

Exceptional writing; covers a wide variety of topics. Sometimes covers topics in depth before they're mainstream news.
Cons: Long-form articles require large time commitment. Does not cover "current events" in the same way as many other periodicals, and is not always the best way to keep in touch with "late breaking" news.
