@Kookyukie : thanks, a pity they turned it into a voting contest (I personally abhor popularity contests). I guess I'll stay a hidden gem, only appreciated by the true connaisseurs (just like the Hunch site itself (how humble);).
"Sharing is caring educational without being pedantic altruistic idealistic trying to find a balance between the latest hypes and ideas hat have proven their value culture can be used to dominate others, curating is a great way to democratize taste." - @ictus
I like that definition of curation very much too. Creating the first contest was instructional (lol). Ictus and several other uber-curators weren't voted up nearly as high as they should have been (next time better spam filters). My goal was to reward and thank great curators, people who work hard for us. Thanks Ictus for entering and your amazing curation. Marty
i my definition reveals the elitist snob I am: showering my good taste upon the dumb and ugly masses. Telling that I want to educate them only reveals my contempt for them. ii more accurate would be to say that other people don't need me to build a viable and meaningful culture ;)
iii curation itself should never be your main activity in life, it should be a by-product of your personal aesthetics and way of life iv e.g. if I would get paid for recommending things, it would instantly lose its lustre
v my main motivation for using Hunch was to contribute to the taste graph, alas no organic growth, not enough demographic spread, so we (consumers) will never experience the true power of the graph vi now the hunch site is like a beautiful building with no commercial activity left, a beautiful building that's well worth exploring from time to time...
Several favorite Hunch.com curators have been selected as possible Top Curators of 2011 based on several hundred entries to Atlantic BT's Content Curation Contest. Voting will take place over the next few weeks and is based on curation philosophy and how fun and engaging curators make their selections.
I wanted to find a way to say thanks and let people who might not know about how helpful everyone inside of Hunch, Scoop.it and Pinterest are. This is a lost leader for my company of web developers. I'm granted one crazy marketing idea per quarter and my Curation Contest was this quarters. Received some great notes from curators already. Martin
