Chen theorizes that weak-FTR (future time reference) languages would be more conducive to future-oriented behavior because, in those grammars, the future feels the same as the present. Mandarin and German are weak FTR's, and therefore its speakers behave more as if the present and future are the same. Don't you love linguistics?
