I read this in my early 20's and was converted. Then I saw its predictive value for Earth (and mankind) was zero to negative infinity. Rand fails to account for chaos and complexity in life and tries to explain success in terms of self-interest. The problem is most of the time neither we (as individuals) nor society can accurately judge what is truly in our self-interest in the moment.

Ayn Rand has her own philosophy, some like it some don't Atlas Strugged and Fountainhead are strong with her beliefs but also good reads just to know what she is talking about with her ideas on life

Not what the Far Right would have you think it is about. A more accurate description would be Tesla vs Edison. Anyone who knows the true history of Edison & Tesla would appreciate her work as she advocates for the Tesla's of our world. Although Rand had definite issues with her own gender... My favorite line "so soft she felt his intention more then his touch".

A hundred pages into Atlas Shrugged, it was clear to me that it was the best book I had ever read, and with a difference. The writing is as powerful as the ideas, although I can't say I share them all.

What can I say, a masterpiece. I dont agree with all her philosophies, but her writing is so powerful, I simply cannot withstand it.
after I read this book, I was so blown away, that it took me a few months, since any other book I tried to read wasnt as good as this one.

Along with 'The Fountainhead', this book nicely encapsulates Rand's philosophy of objectivism. The ideas it espouses are fairly controversial, more so than ever in the wake of the GFC, but it undoubtedly makes for an intellectually stimulating read. Parts are difficult to get through due to Rand's occasionally dense writing style, but it is well worth the effort.

One of the best stories I've ever read. Even if you don't agree with her philosophy, which I don't, it is still extremely entertaining and worth the long haul.

Because society would be far more effective if only more people admitted we do things in self interest. Rational thought = better human relations in all endeavors.

Delicious read, not for the general public.

Excellent story staring capitalism and the free market. Read it if you want to know why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Another great book. I like the Fountainhead better, but this is Ayn's "Masterpiece." #Objectivism

This book is really good but it's kind of like any self help tome or manifesto...there are some really great grains of truth and learning, but to take it as 100% full on gospel is probably not prudent.

Ayn Rand's seminal opus written more than half a century ago yet applies perfectly to any time (including today) and would have been very prescient if only it wasn't equalled by the power of its controversial thesis, that liberty is paramount and rational self-interest (and also as a basis for capitalism) does far more good overall than most people think.

probably the best book about the positive aspects of market forces, and that the alternatives are worse
Cons: the ending is a bit feeble
