An affordable, revolutionary camera. The Lytro ($400) takes a "focus-less" shot - allowing snaps to be taken very quickly, with no waiting for focus - and also allowing you to choose how you want the image focused *after* it's captured. Brilliant.

I've followed this project for the last few months, the concept is almost as brilliant as the science and technology behind it. Its defiantly worth reading how they make these amazing cameras.

The technique might be old, but this is the first light field camera that is priced for consumers rather than for professionals (an order of magnitude price drop from the cheapest alternative). Got to love the iPod-esque design too. A bit concerned about being locked into a proprietary format, though esp as they only promise to support Mac and Windows users.

Lytro introduces the first light field camera. The camera basically has infinite focus. Try it out yourself on their website. Just click on any part of the picture to refocus. Double clikc to zoom in.
