Wow - I was blown away by these photos. They're amazing and incredibly sad. Unbelievable that this is only one city.

Each photo tells a story - and a touching one too.

Thought-provoking. A once beautiful and graceful city fallen to ruin and forgotten.

These are the sort of photographs that I take. Textures and irony.

Vanitas: Great photos portraying the decay of a big city. They show that in some places these ruins have been ruins for decades (the barber shop), seemingly untouched and forgotten.

I saw these photos a few months ago. It makes me think about how dreams can die but there is beauty in decay; a somber beauty.

Amazing images, I would have loved to see these places in their hey-day. Salvador Dali could not have painted a finer melted clock.

There is a certain kind of odd beauty to the decay shown in these images and for as scary as they are maybe there is hope somewhere for Detroit and other cities like it.

Startling, humbling, desperate and beautiful. I adore ruins, especially when they're so austere and grand as some of these, to have a glimpse at how ephemeral even monuments can be. This will have me waxing lyrical for hours!

The photos are stunning. The subject matter is depressing. This is my home town and it was beautiful and vibrant. This decline started years ago. There was a stark difference in the beautiful houses even with just 1street separation. In Detroit, they were in ruins, 1street away they were pristine. Streets were gated at the city limits to try and stop blight...total ignorance.

I really love this subject in photography.
And it is so sad.

Just impressed by the pictures. And it's so sad for some historic sites to be abandon... Like art deco ballrooms, neo-modern buildings etc...

French photographers Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre document the decline of an American city in these amazing photographs of the the ruins of grand old buildings in Detroit.
