It's a total departure for Kevin Smith, away from his usual comedies into a much more graphic and horrifying world. He paints a realistic image of a warped Christian sect married to weapons and murder, and brings out stellar performances from both John Goodman (as a conflicted ATF agent) and Michael Parks (as the pathological preacher). As inspired as Tarantino in its bloodshed.
Finally caught this after waiting for its release since January. Didn't live up to how much Kevin Smith was hyping it, but it had a really interesting dark humor to it -- especially John Goodman's character.
