Great idea! Maybe just make sure the wood doesn't contain anything toxic which could leak into the soil and your herbs.

Upcycle wine box crates into a cool looking rooftop/ patio garden. Can be propped up by bricks underneath to create a multi level effect, very pleasing to the eye and palate to have fresh herbs at hand. Nice website for balcony living, if you are lucky enough to have one!
