I've been trying to adopt a cat here in Japan! But I've been refused by the local cat rescue groups because nobody seems to trust single working-age males living alone!!!

Are they afraid you will get hungry? Very sad, perhaps you need to just find one that seems available. Thumbs up on your willingness to provide a needed home, nonetheless.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I should mention that it was the Japanese-run rescue groups that refused me. And their reasons for refusal were, sadly, my being non-Japanese and the notion that single males supposedly have a tendency towards animal abuse. I have spoken with the foreign-run rescue groups, and they are more understanding. Here's hoping I can give a great home to a cat soon!
