John Steed remains- and will always be- the ultimate hero. The 1965 black and white series with Diana Rigg (shot on film for the first time) remains the highlight. There was a dreadful cinematic re-make with Ralph Fiennes- one turkey of a mess involving a geriatric Sean Connery and a troupe of teddy bears. Avoid this like the plague.
One day I was in a department meeting with some of my younger fellow employees and they where talking about the X-files and I happen to mention the Avengers had already done that...needless to say none of them knew about the Avengers...a quick visit to the internet and the video store brought them up to date and possibly made fans out of them. I highly recommend the Avengers.
eccentric, humorous and often fantastic in the true sense of the word, this British TV show preceded the first Bond film and ran for nearly a decade. if you've never seen it before, try 'A Touch of Brimstone' or 'The House That Jack Built'.
