Agree with previous recommendation by Stephen Thorpey. Monk is the greatest. Extremely innovative, totally swings, with unusual angular rhythms and chordal structures. Always a surprise and a delight.

Often imitated, never reproduced. I respect how he stands away from the piano when he's not playing, and slaps the keys when he is playing. He became a jazz legend by breaking every rule in the book. Definition of cool.
