I liked this film when I saw it the first time, mainly because it was easy to lean back and just get swept away by the visuals. Doesn't hurt that all of the girls are cute as buttons also. However, I made the mistake of watching it again half a year later and didn't even finish it. It's a cool visual trip but take my advice and see it only once.
For a story so intricately tied to the main character's mental state, it's remarkable how much time is spent on mindless action sequences. It's the worst sort of negative spiral: There's so much action that you don't have time to connect with the characters, and because you don't care about the characters the action becomes boring.
A mind bending vision of reality from the director of Watchmen & 300: "A young girl is institutionalized by her abusive stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the mental facility."
Similar to both inception and fight club and tied together with almost laugh inducing action sequences, this movie provides great simple entertainment. It will exceed your expectations, whatever they may be.
Brilliant directing, psychological thriller and just plain fun.
Sucker punch combines two of the most unlikely things, pure bad-ass action with a sad/depressing mind twister. I have to say, the story is a refreshing change-up to the typical thriller. The characters are fun and the message it gets across is solid, definitely a must watch for any psychology/action lover.
