DFW is my hero.This book is a great beach read, especially when you want to learn about shark fatality statistics (which I love to do. Especially while life-guarding.) Wallace manages to describe all of those horrendous feelings you encounter when faced with just about anything.
His piece chronicling his experience on the luxury cruise liner the Nadir is now the quintessential cruise article.

David Foster Wallace was a genius. He was also nearly unreadable. This one, at least, is accessible.
