Google Voice allows you the opportunity to give all of your contacts just one number, that in turn will ring any phone line that you designate and at what times.

It also transcribes voicemails into texts, though that isn't as accurate as I wish it was.

I've put Google Voice on my business cards, so that when I change work locations I can change the associated landlines on the account, and people can still easily find me. Also, the text messaging is the best, and I really like the transcribed voicemails. (The transcriptions aren't necessarily the best, but you can usually deduce what the message is.)

You have to try this. One phone number to control all of your numbers. One voicemail inbox to listen to (and see) all of your voicemails. The ability to pull up a voice mail from two years ago is incredible.

If you have an android phone it works great as a free voicemail transcription/visual voicemail service without having to port your number.

You can't see if you have a missed call without the caller leaving a VM as well... kind of a downside...

Works awesomely if you have android and you don't have to pay $20 / month to your carrier for less than a kilobyte of SMS.

For a guy with a lot of phones and computers this is a windfall. I ported my number in 2009 and have been happy ever since.
- one number rings all your phones and devices
- never check your voicemail again. transcripts are sent to you via e-mail
- send/read texts from your computer
- by allowing access to your voicemail you are making the Google voice recognitions systems smarter

Free texting on phone and online. Voicemails are transcribed.
Cons: No MMS.

great alternative to skype with features such as voice mail to text!
Cons: wish i could integrate this better with my iphone even though theirs an app for it, i want to use it as my main phone rather than AT&T service
