The syntax is built to make code as easy to read in 6 months as possible. The growing support manifests in more and more useful libraries. Useful for scripting with the web or databases.
Cons: Still slow for large executions(Although JRuby is an interesting alternative). The syntax while beautiful isn't as intuitive if you come from say Perl, or a compiled language.
