it's such an overrated book. it's not well written and the foreshadowing is so ham-fisted that there's no question that when all the coincidences come together at the end, the reader is left totally unsurprised and more depressed and misinformed than when they started.

A deep book that was so straight forward it made me feel too ashamed of myself to even read it. the truth about us, but also our redeeming qualities.

Despite the dire consequences and utter despair of the characters in this novel, the descriptions of vegetarian food they were eating distracted and enticed me just enough to make it through. If you haven't also read 1000 Splendid Suns, I highly recommend it.

riveting! a must read + must see movie. there are some disturbing parts of the story, but a real depiction of the life in kabul, past and present.
