People need to protect their computers while online and an anti-virus is essential. Avast has a very good rep.

Great basic scanner. Reasonable memory usage. Good proactive scanner. Great online AND OFFLINE UPDATES!
Cons: Not very good at detecting malware. Clunky Interface. The fact that it is in version 4 for the past four years doesn't help it either.
