Having started watching every episode for the second time (after having completed the 4 available seasons), I suddenly realized that 'Mad Men' is 'Sex and the City' for grown-ups. Anyone who disagrees just hasn't grown up yet (no offense). It's marvelous work of art: great lines, great acting, great everything!
Mad Men is one of the finest produced shows on TV.
Chronicling the mysterious Donald Draper and his rise to becoming the most prominent ad man on Madison Avenue, Mad Men has inspired a return to the fashions of the 60s.
Though the plot sometimes leads to nowhere, the production's attention to detail is always requiring attention.
Advertising might feel old fashioned these days with social media and all, but the show´s aura reminds me of why I wanted to be an advertising professional while I was a teen. Fantastic plot and character building helps a lot too, as well as a thorough understanding from writers about the 60´s setting.
I cannot say enough good things about Mad Men. It's got everything you want in a television drama. It never gets boring, even when it gets slow (especially when it gets slow!) and even the most vile characters are fascinating and will have you rooting for them. As main character Don Draper, Jon Hamm has made himself an American icon.
Honestly, it took me a while to actually get myself to watch the first episode of this show. I thought it would be rather dull. Wow, I was so WRONG. This show is brilliant. The storyline, characters, and the outfits. The best show on TV right now. Also, John Hamm is hot. I had to say it. Watch!
Don Draper: He is a source of inspiration in terms of how to be a successful and charming man. Less talking, smart dressing, being a good orator when required and knowing your job very well.
Cons: I know there would be some but I haven't thought about them.
Something about the intense inner conflicts of the characters, while inflicting sentiments of despair, turmoil, and greed leaves you feeling somewhat satisfied with the past 50 years of progress.
Cons: Gay art director character written out of storyline. Added another important element of the social regression of that period.
The writing is so thoughtful- the character and plot development require dedication from the viewer. In this way it follows the format of a novel more than a tv show. Respect.
Cons: Some of the typography in the opening credits is inaccurate to the time in which the series takes place. Also, it will come to an end. Alas!
