So many incredible poems and literary works, not enough space here to elaborate properly. In winning the 1923 Nobel Prize in Literature (he was the first Irishman so honored), the Nobel Committee described his work as "inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation." My favorites: "The Second Coming" and "He Wishes for the Clothes of Heaven"...

Masterful. Meaningful. Faeries, politics, Irish. Required reading in almost every class in English Literature.
