This was such a sad film. While it was very well done, I would not really watch it again.

What Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil did for Savannah, GA, City of God did to launch a favela tourist industry (which I'm not ashamed to say I've patronized). This captures the joy, culture, and terror of the favela communities during the worst of the gang wars. Highly stylized and engaging. A great movie.
The story of a city told through 18 characters played by real locals and based on a novel on real events. The narrative is told in a non-linear style à la Pulp Fiction and is a story of violence, but that's where the similarities end. The cinematography is gorgeous, and the film will have you thinking and wanting to discuss with your friends. Raw, stunning, visual masterpiece--highly recommended.
