The only Oscar John Wayne ever won was this one. Most people are probably familiar with the recent remake by the Cohen Brothers, but this version which came out only a year after the release of the novel is well worth watching for comparison. It has the slightly more optimistic cinematic style characteristic of the late 60s but some good performances.
