Chinatown is always a great place to go. A lot of it has become tourist trap-like however.
Foodwise: Shanghai Cafe (100 Mott Street) for great food. If you place higher service and cleanliness standards over quality of food, Dim Sum Go Go would be the place to go.
Chinatown has hidden hole-in-the-wall treasures that are often the best in the city (such as jerky places, flower shops, etc)
