Great movie, sad news about the director. He gave a great Q&A after the movie when I saw it, he conveyed a lot of emotion about war journalism and the struggles of the soldiers at the outpost.

A stark and understated, yet none the less gut wrenching window into day-to-day life in a combat zone.

It is a totally unbiased movie towards the soldiers in Iraq. When watching the film, I felt as if i was there in the base clowning around and the next minute dropping to the ground to avoid an enemies bullet. Tears and laughter accompany this telling doc.

Excellent. Simple - even boring in parts - but seemed to capture what it might be like really well.

If you don't respect every person who serves their country after this you have no soul.

As with all things from National Geographic, it is very well made. It puts you right into the action, and it is very gritty. Frontline also has some great ones that you can watch for free, that I enjoyed a bit more though.

Gritty, real look at war--follows a group of soldiers in Afghanistan and covers not only life in conflict but also the life in between on the base. Great views of interactions between soliders and locals--highlighting the difficulties of a war with an enemy that is not easy to identify.

Nominated for an acadamy award for a reason, this movie shows you what war is really like. Here you see that the everyday life of soldiers, isn't everyday at all. Coping with a constantly changing and hostile environment, we follow the lives of a handful of soldiers as they fight for their country.

War is hell. This documentary will hopefully make all appreciate the sacrifices that are being made. It doesn’t ask the questions “Why are we here?” “Why are we fighting this war?” “What is the point?” It doesn’t need to. You can see the reason in the eyes of every military man interviewed.

I'm not a huge fan of war movies but this one stuck with me.
The director, Tim Hetherington, was killed today by Colonel Qadaffi's troops in Libya.

An intensely illuminating and compelling documentary of life as young soldiers in the Korgengal valley.

Saw this last night and was blown away by how close the filmmakers were to gunfights and actual warfare. Focuses on a 15 man outpost in one of the most dangerous parts of afghanistan
