An English course read for many, this book tells the story of Stephen Dedalus (the son of Daedalus, if you will). Stephen serves as Joyce's literary alter-ego, a character who desires to soar above his traditional conservative Irish-Catholic upbringing. Full of allusions to Greek and christian myth, it's a great read to tackle when you have the time.

It takes a lot of thinking to read this, but it's 100% worth it.
