Subtle and plays to the little things that are likely to scare you when you're alone. Sets up a nice mythology too, which goes largely unnoticed.
Cons: Doesn't really pay off in the end. It stays consistently good, but never great. Despite trying their best, the leads are terrible actors and can't even play themselves convincingly.

Scary,realistic,with a great storyline!the perfect start for a trilogy of terror movies
Cons: the official ending, filmed before all the hype around the movie, was not released with the DVD and can only be found on the internet!
