Perfect for information junkies, it really motivates you to do more activities so you have more data! I also used it to monitor my sleep.

I've got one of these and it's definitely a motivator. When you compare your own steps-per-day with the standard statistic, it really gets you going. Furthermore, the sleep monitoring function has been eye-opening. It tells you how long it takes you to fall asleep, how many times you wake during the night, and how many total minutes of sleep you got.

This sounds amazing, only I'm afraid to find out how much I wake up at night! How does it know such things?

Great way to make yourself want to be healthy, especially if your a tech geek like me. Helps you track daily health activity, i.e. calories burned, steps/miles taken, & when combined with the site features such as logging food (livestrong like), activity and weight plus trainer scenarios it's very cool.

I don't have one but keep hearing I should get one. Ok I'm gonna get one. Saved!.

One issue you might find troublesome, but I suspect it may change at some point. The comm between the device and base is proprietary & the base must be plugged in to your computer as it's the only data transport model for the fitbit. So, if on the go a lot it can be a pain to have to plugin your base. Good news though, it syncs wirelessly to the base or through anyone else's base.

just started working out again and have had several friends tell me that fitbit is in order. saved and going to try to buy one this weekend! thanks Mike!
mikerowan commented 1 year, 2 months ago
I have used it daily for the past 1.5 months since I got it and forgot it only one time. But, I have reduced the times I wear it at night to measure sleep efficiency, did it for the first couple weeks, then stopped. I guess when you see a constant 97-99% sleep efficiency result, this aspect gets old.

Personal analytics are addictive. Always great when I'm wandering in NYC and am curious about the distance I just walked.
