Very profound. I read it 2 or 3 times and it brought me to tears (mainly for the cruelty that is inherent to humans). Aside from one particularly ironic (or not) chapter about dogs, it is enlightening to say the least.
I have read a lot about Vegetarianism over the years, and this remains my favorite book on the subject. Foer enters the novel an indifferent omnivore, and throughout his journey becomes something entirely different. A must read for everyone.
A deeply personal insight into the "whys" of being a vegetarian, not an attempt to convert anyone. Foer's level of research is admirable. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed 'Everything Is Illuminated;' regardless of your feelings on vegetarianism, the writing itself is just engrossing.
