Seminal Latin American anti-novel. It consists of many books, but two books above all. In his own words: ""The general idea behind Hopscotch, you see, is the proof of a failure and the hope of a victory. But the book doesn't propose any solution; it simply limits itself to showing the possible paths one can take to knock down the wall, to see what's on the other side."

I would vote for Cortazar's short stories over this novel, but they are harder to track down amongst bookstore shelves (except for maybe in new york....). So, given that real world handicap, you can read this and end up in the thick of everything and at the mercy of nothing.

I just tracked down his short stories on my bookshelves ;) But I concur, this book is more intellectual onania, while his short stories are the real deal.
