I've been taking German lessons for about 2 months now, and since movies were great in helping me learn English language I'm always looking for German films to watch (as well as German music to listen to) in order to educate my ears.

I got so bored watching this, but I pulled through. Boy am I glad I finished this gem. It's my all time favorite.

Just watched this one, and it's one of the best I've seen in years. Set in East Germany in 1984, it tells the story of a stasi secret policeman who is assigned to monitor a potentially subversive artist with hidden surveillance, and the admiration and attachment the stasi begins to feel toward the artist. Very moving story, extremely well acted. In German, so you may need subtitles.

This movie is extremely powerful. Even in translation, the writing is spot-on, the camera work is perfect, and the actors create beautifully powerful performances which speak volumes in just moments.
