I've seen this movie over 20 times and still love it.
I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but he is solid in this role.
Question: Why does honor demand frontal assaults into fortified defensive positions against superior firepower?

I really like this movie, the story is very good although I wouldn't like to think that Tom Cruise is the last samurai hehe

Gorgeous costumes and sets, fantastic characters - a great story about the modernization of Japan, and the fading of the samurai.
If you haven't seen this film because you can't take Tom Cruise seriously as (only technically) the last of the samurai, you are very seriously cheating yourself.
