The set-up might sound bizarre and kinky--Lars buys a doll meant for sex, after all--but get the dirty thoughts out of your head. This is a very sweet story that organically derives its comedy and zaniness from the premise. You won't have to deal with a bunch of lame jokes shoehorned in to the script that don't belong. Ryan Gosling is amazing here. He's a barometer for good movies.
