Kate Beaton's comic strips are the kind that would never get into a newspaper syndicate, and I say this as a criticism of syndicates. The web is where a strip like this flowers. Beaton can effortlessly switch between historical subjects and pop culture. Plus, unlike many newspaper cartoonists, she's pretty damn funny.
History + Humor = Awesome. Not only does it make me laugh, but I often learn things after going to look things up related to the comic. Cons: Only for history lovers. If you have little to no interest in history this is not the comic for you.
Intelligent, historically aware humor. Her art style is interesting, but conveys so much SO well. I particularly love her French revolution, Tesla, Jane Austen, and Watson strips. Cons: Sometimes references are a bit obscure but she does a good job making sure to give a reference in the news section.
If you want a comic that will have you running off to wikipedia to read up on new things, this comic is for you. Or look at events and historical figures in a different light. Cons: Artwork takes a little getting used to.
