His more commercial films are okay. The Hellboy movies are fun popcorn movies with lots of gorgeous visuals and Hellboy himself is a great character. However, Guillermo del Toro's more personal films like Chronos and Pan's Labyrinth are exceptional. I don't consider him a maker or horror but of dark and beautiful fantasies that tell painful truths. He makes nightmares feel like daydreams.

I liked Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy I.
Cons: I found Hellboy 2 semi-unwatchable.
