We have a black lab mix (St. Bernard) named Gracie. She is such a great dog! She will try to sit in your lap if you let her, thinks she's a puppy.
Cons: Don't let her step on your feet, they're huge!

Loveable and cute. Long life if taken good care of (mine lived to be 19)
Cons: Hip problems w/ age. Eye problems w/ age. often have epilepsy (mine seized alot as a pup nothing to serious though)

Loyal, friendly, smart, and good with kids. Generally active but they don't mind being lazy either. Booming voice will scare away burglars everytime!
Cons: Prone to eat everything within reach, can get overweight easily. Risk of hip displacement and (rarely) twisted-stomach. Seasonally sheds. Booming voice. May lick your burglar if he doesn't run away

Another great family dog. You can take them jogging, hang out in the house with them and play fetch and such.
Cons: Can get fat and are often really smelly.
