ubuntu is very cool

brilliant OS, free, fast and easy to use. Very much comparable and in some aspects better than Windows. The only part where it is inferior to Win is the gaming(there are nowhere as near as so many high quality games). However i recommend it for academia, science and business as well as any other interests other than gaming.

brilliantly made - very inspiring and very good, and free. fast, very well integrated with the internet, and has massive scope for the future. Easy to use well, and full of ideas that are only beginning to flower - unlike any propriety OS.

Why shouldn't a great operating system be free?

Been using Ubuntu for 3 years now and am without significant complaints. Easy-to-use and with great potential for personalization and customization.

Great for desktops. I used to use it for servers, but found better alternatives.

Very cool OS but maybe not for everyday use(actually depends on what you do)!

One of the best Linux distros. Great server side and for hardcore techies client side.

I love Free Software! And while Ubuntu doesn't stick to that ideal as much as other Linux distributions, it is by far the most consumer friendly and easiest to start with.

As long as you have patience to work through occasional bugs on your own, this will be YOUR operating system!

Friendly GUI, a lot of apps. Music store, well suited for modern hardware.
Cons: A little tedious to obtain the plug-ins required to listen to .mp3's and to watch DVD movies.

I can run this off a 4 GB SD card on my laptop with zero issues.
Cons: If you know *nix you are set, if you don't there are still so many GUI tools that it isn't required.

ubuntu is extraordinarily simple to set up, and it has great hardware support.
Cons: ubuntu should drop the 32 bit support. it's 2011.

Very user-friendly, even easier to handle than Windows. It's really a Linux for normal people.
Cons: Most professional applications don't run on Linux.

This is my favorite OS of all Oses in the world. I would have used this Os all the time if all my games and program worked 100% like. But sadly it's only 50% in windows.

free, user friendly, excellent community support network
Cons: limited availability of mainstream software titles

Many ways to install it, anyone can do it. Dual booting was so easy to set up I had to laugh at it. Almost no learning curve to start using for a windows user. Updated every 6 months.
Cons: There are a few hardware driver problems occasionally. It may seems dumbed down for some linux users.

Easy to use, lots of pre-compiled packages available in repositories. Great support (through forums and IRC)
Cons: Not as customizable as other distributions, maybe too much beginner-friendly.
